Landlords and Contractors be warned: working on a renovation project in a building that was built before 1978 without proper lead certification could result in fines of $32,500 per day of renovating. That steep fine is meant to disincentivise people from delving into projects without taking the utmost precautions to protect themselves and others from lead dust exposure, which can damage many vital organs & body processes, such as the heart, bones, kidneys, intestines, reproductive, and nervous systems. To learn how to avoid the danger of lead dust exposure, and avoid the potentially ruinous legal ramifications of not following Rochester’s lead ordinance, there are certification classes being held on several dates throughout January and February, at a cost of $299 per person. The course includes an eight hour hands-on workshop, EPA certification, an EPA workbook, and they’ll even feed you lunch. Devote one day to becoming certified, and save yourself a lot of hassle down the line.
The certification program will take place at 300 Airpark Drive, from 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM on the following dates:
Tuesday, January 11, 2011
Saturday, January 22, 2011
Monday, January 31, 2011
Monday, February 14, 2011 (A very romantic way to spend Valentine’s Day)
Saturday, February 26, 2011
